An important update from Red Chair Highland CIC

This is an incredibly challenging message for us to write.

 

The management board of Red Chair Highland CIC has made the difficult decision to place us into insolvency, and we are now working with an appointed insolvency practitioner to manage the process responsibly, transparently and in accordance with our legal duties.

 

Over the past five years, Red Chair Highland has grown from an idea into a trusted digital inclusion service supporting thousands of people across Inverness and the wider Highlands.

 

Together, we have provided thousands of devices, thousands of months of connectivity, thousands of hours of  1-1 support sessions and workshops, and taken digital support into communities across the Highlands.

 

But the numbers only tell part of the story.

 

We have helped people attend health appointments, apply for jobs, access benefits and services, stay connected with family, recognise scams, use new devices and, perhaps most importantly, feel more confident in an increasingly digital world.

 

We have met some truly wonderful people along the way.

 

Our greatest sadness is for the learners and communities who have relied on our support. We know that the loss of free, patient and accessible digital support will leave a significant gap, particularly for people already facing poverty, isolation, rural barriers or other forms of exclusion.

 

There is information we cannot yet share while the formal process is underway, and we will provide further confirmed updates about our services and practical arrangements as soon as we are able.

 

For now, we simply want to say thank you.

Red Chair Highland may be reaching the end of its journey, but the skills learned, confidence gained, connections made,

partnerships built and lives touched through our work will remain.

We understand that many people may still need help after Red Chair Highland's services come to an end. The following organisations may be able to provide support, depending on what you need:


 

AbilityNet

AbilityNet provides free technology support to older people and disabled people across the UK. Their volunteers can help with computers, tablets, smartphones, setting up equipment, getting online and other technology problems.

Highland Council Adult Learning

Adult Learning provides support across the Highlands with digital literacy and other everyday learning skills, including 1-1 and small group learning.

Inverness, Badenoch and Strathspey Citizens Advice Bureau

CAB can provide free advice and support with issues including benefits, money and debt, housing, employment and other practical problems.

Centred, Discovery College

For people looking for opportunities to improve wellbeing, confidence and social connection, Discovery College provides a welcoming learning environment in Inverness. It is not a replacement for general digital support, but may be particularly helpful for people who have valued the social, confidence-building and wellbeing aspects of attending Red Chair Highland.

We would recommend contacting organisations before travelling, as the support available and appointment arrangements may vary.
